Crypto is put into CSEL
If disconnected from battery and not pre-flighted, the crypto will disappear
Date and time
If battery on CSEL goes into power save mode, time and date will be lost
MUST PREFLIGHT CAEL EVERY DAY
!!!
IMM button if hit…
Only button that could be pressed afterward is power
Every other button after hitting IMM puts the radio on cypernet (emergency stuff)
*Don’t hit unless emergency
MAIN button takes you to main screen
Can help if you get confused
IMM
Immediate Message Mode (emergencies)
When preflighting radio
*Face west when north of equator
Face east when south of border
Keep antenna vertical
DO NOT PRESS IMM, press main and make sure you have a key symbol (skeleton key) present. Works regardless of if it says time invalid (if no key, turn around back into ALSE shop)
Link quality screen
As long as the bars show up, you do not need to wait on this screen (attempting to establish quality)
If it says “relocate” its fine and working, no issue
Waypoint list
For us, it will say a state that is listed in the shop on a whiteboard
NAV screen
GPS fix sequence needs to be done while not moving, look west, not under roof.
Wait for 4 bars to rise 3/4 way up
Once GPS is set
Go to main screen, it will show “store waypoint”… press push to talk for a second, and screen will change (shows freq). Then you are set
If time invalid
Follow prompts
Wait for gps fix
Preflight card
FOLLOW THE CARD WITHOUT THE RED BAND ON TOP.
Only use the preflight procedures, DO NOT COMMUNICATE BY IMM
Buy some mechanics gloves for preflighting the aircraft
