Read Questions & Answers Carefully
Avoid Absolutes
Always, Never, Must, Cure
Eliminate Answers that are clearly wrong
Watch for Grammatical Errors
Question and Answer should match grammatically
Rephrase the question
Reword the question in your head. Find the essential information
Make an educated guess if unsure
Go with your gut and stick to your first answer
Don’t try to figure out how you’re doing on the exam
CAT can be confusing, do your best.
In general if the questions are hard that’s good. If the questions are similar that’s bad.
Expect to get 150 questions (the max)
Then you won’t be discouraged at 75
Expect the first 10-15 questions to be rough
The CAT is assessing you harshly to figure out where to place you
Don’t expect to know everything
Remember SAFE care
Don’t read into the question or add history to it
All that you need to answer the question is in the question
Always least invasive to most invasive
Ex. Therapeutic communication vs. restraints
Assessment comes first
then interventions and treatments
Always assess the patient first
then the equipment
An answer that delays care or treatment is usually wrong
“Assess unless in distress”
