Cryotherapy Flashcards
What does Cryotherapy treatment consist of?
In a Cryotherapy Session, your body will be exposed to cold temperatures of -80°C to -90°C for a short period of time (3 minutes or less). At this extreme temperature, the body activates several mechanisms that have significant long-term medical and cosmetic benefits
What are the benefits of Cryotherapy?
AIR-MMS (Aging Inflammation Recovery Metabolism Mood Sleep)
- Decreases the signs of Aging; increases collagen production and the skin regains elasticity. As we age, toxins can buildup. These and other stored deposits are flushed out of the layers of the skin by vasoconstriction and vasodilation. Hair, skin & nail quality improve.
- Lowers Inflammation and improves chronic joint pain conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and chronic skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis.
- Improves Recovery & Sports Performance; Reduces the rest time required for Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS). and blood perfusion is improved after several treatments.
- Boosts the Metabolism & body composition; activates “brown fat” & burns between 500-800cals in 3min (=40to60min run @ 10mph). If Cryo 2x/week, lose 1to2lb of BF per month.
- Improves the Mood; it supports the function of the immune system and helps decrease stress levels. Release of adrenaline, noradrenaline, and endorphins. This can have a positive effect on those experiencing mood disorders like anxiety and depression.
- Improves Sleep quality; When exposed to extremely cold temperatures your body produces hormones that are directly related to sleep and relaxation. Release the endorphin norepinephrine, which helps you feel relaxed. This also acts as a mild sedative to help relax you and, in turn, help you get better sleep at night.
What is a Pacemaker and what does it do?
Small device placed in the chest to help control the heartbeat, prevents the heart from beating too slow or too fast.
What is a Heart Bypass Surgery?
Procedure to restore blood flow to areas of the heart, in which the coronary artery was originally obstructed by the buildup of plaques. (Coronary Artery Disease)
What is Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)?
Chronic condition in which the heart doesn’t pump blood as well as it should to give your body a normal supply.
What is Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)?
It refers to a group of diseases that cause airflow blockage and breathing-related problems; such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis.
What is Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT)?
It is a blood clot that develops within a deep vein in the body, usually in the leg (in a deep larger vein that runs through the muscles of the calf and the thigh).
What is Raynaud’s disease?
Usually triggered by cold temperatures, anxiety or stress and affecting fingers and/or toes.
The condition occurs because your blood vessels go into a temporary spasm, which blocks the flow of blood. This causes the affected area to change colour to white, then blue and then red, as the bloodflow returns.
What is the most common bacterial/viral infection of the skin?
Herpes simplex is the most common viral skin disease.
What is Vasculitis?
Inflammation of the blood vessels. If blood flow is restricted, it can result in organ and/or tissue damage.
What is Anemia and Severe Anemia?
It can cause low oxygen levels in vital organs such as the heart, and can lead to heart failure.
Anemia is a condition in which the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells. Red blood cells provide oxygen to body tissues.
Different types of anemia include: Anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency. Anemia due to folate (folic acid) deficiency.
Diabetes can be defined as:
As having a fasting plasma glucose >= 126 mg.dL (7.0 mmol.L)
Or 2h plasma glucose values in oral glucose tolerance test >= 200 mg.dL
Or HbA1C >= 6.5%
Prediabetes fasting glucose level:
100 - 125 mg.dL
What is acute kidney or urinary tract diseases?
It’s a sudden episode of kidney failure or kidney damage that happens within a few hours or a few days. AKD causes a build-up of waste products in your blood and makes it hard for your kidneys to keep the right balance of fluid in your body.
What is a Seizure?
Seizures are caused by rapid and uncoordinated electrical firing in the brain. This can cause temporary abnormalities in behaviors and movements (such as alternating stiffening and jerking of the arms and legs)
Ex: Epilepsy or brain injury
