when water in state of solid, it doesnt sink, unlike most substances. instead it floats. thats why ice floats! it less dense in the solid state than in the liquid state.

despite the fact it changed states its not a chemical change becayse its still technically H20 its just in another state. Nothing reacted with the water to make it a whole new thing.
