How do you measure the length of crutches for a person
2-3 fingerwidths below anterior axillary fold to a point lateral and slightly in front of foot
What is angle of elbows when handgrip is properly placed?
Elbows will be flexed 30 degrees
2 point gait
(minor weakness on both legs)
2 things move together: a crutch and the opposite foot
3 point gait
(One bad leg not on ground)
Move 2 crutches and BAD leg together
Follow with good foot
4 point gait
(nothing moves together, everything is weak)
One crutch
Opposite foot
Other crutch
Other foot
Swing through gait
(non weight bearing/amputation)
Unaffected foot gets passed the tip of both crutches
Which foot leads with going up and down the stairs with crutches?
UP with GOOD
DOWN with BAD
-crutches always move with bad leg
