What are complications of crush injuries?

A

rhabdomyolysis can occur where muscle breaks down and releases debris, myoglobin, and CK, high risk of AKI

what are hallmark signs of rhabdomyolysis?

A

cola colored urine where it is positive for blood but negative for RBCs which is known as myoglobinuria

elevated CK of >10,000

what are priority interventions when a patient has a crush injury?

A
  1. Stabilize and do not remove it
  2. still always ABCs
  3. fluid resuscitation but give warm fluids!
  4. monitor for compartment syndrome which is a medical emergency
