Richard attacks Messina, Sicily, and Philip refuses to give help, affronted by his attack on a city in which he was a guest and and especially by Richard raising his banners of the city

Philip re;eases Richard from his oath to marry his sister Alice, paying 10,000 marks to Philip, and agreeing that the Vexin goes to Philip if he has no male heirs; where they really start to fall out according tot Gillingham

Richard arrives at the Siege of Acre, and is criticised by Philip for being late; Richard offers four gold pieces for any knight who joins him, against Philip’s three

Richard conquers Cyprus; P later asks R at Acre for half of everything R has taken from Cyprus; Richard says that their agreement only applied “to the land of Jerusalem”, and that he can have half the spoils if got half of Flanders

R asks P to declare that they intend to remain in Acre for three years, P declares that he is going home on 22 July- Philip of Flanders had died on 1 June and he was tempted by those lands
