A
Inflammation of larynx, trachea, and bronchi
Affects children age 6 months to 3 years but can occur in older children
More common in boys

S&S
A
Often in middle of night
Barking type of cough
Upper respiratory infection for few days
Fever
Horse voice or cry
High HR and RR
Inspiratory stridor
Expiratory wheezing
Retractions
Hypoxemia

Management
A
Corticosteroids: dexamethasone
Epinephrine via nebulizer: monitor for 2-3 hours
