Cross Connection Control Flashcards
What are the 4 types of isolation used for?:
- Premise
- Individual Fixture
- Zone
- Area
Types Of Isolation
- Premise: Entering the building
- Individual Fixture : Has its own form of protection (AG, HCUB, AVB ect…)
- Zone: A group or a system like a boiler, not specifically a plumbing fixture, that does not have its own protection
- Area: A Backflow preventer installed on one pipe that feeds a group of fixtures that do have their own protection
Types of Backflow:
- What is Back Pressure?
- What is back Siphon?
- Cross connection is any actual or potential connection between a potable water supply and any ______ through which it is possible for _______ to enter the potable water supply
- Are we permitted to connect private water supplies with public water supplies?
Types of Backflow:
Back Pressure:
- Reversal of the normal flow, Positive pressure in the system that is greater then the system pressure
Back siphon:
- Reversal of the normal flow, Negative pressure (Anything less then 14.7 ATMpsi)
Cross connection:
- Cross connection is any actual or potential connection between a potable water supply and any (ii) through which it is possible for (iii) to enter the potable water supply :
(ii) Pipe, vessel, tank, plumbing fixture, equipment, or device
(iii) Used, Polluted, contaminated, or any other substances
NOTE: we are not permitted to connect private water supplies with public water supplies
Degree of Hazard part 1:
Severe (High Hazard):
- List 3 factors associated with a severe hazard situation (How dangerous, where it may be located)
- What protections are required? (list 2)
Degree of Hazard part 1:
Severe (High Hazard):
- Dangerous in any concentration (Toxic)
- Can make sick or even kill
- Locations: Hospitals, Morgue, Processing Plants
- RP (boss) and Air gap (Queen)
Degree of Hazard part 2:
Moderate (Medium Hazard):
- List 3 aspects of a Medium hazard (Danger, and location)
- What protection is adequate for this?
Moderate (Medium Hazard)
- Dangerous to health in certain concentrations
- Polluted
- Locations: Shopping malls, office buildings, restaurants, tall apartment buildings, hotels
- Double check Valve Assembly DCVA
Degree of Hazard part 3:
Minor (Low Hazard)
- List 3 aspects of a low hazard (Danger, and location)
- What could be some signs of a low hazard?
- what protection is required?
Minor (Low Hazard)
- No Danger to health
- Nuisance
- Residential duplex, water softener, laundry tub
- Watch for aesthetic objective: Color, taste, smell, look, and temperature
- AVB, HCUB, Dual Check, DCAP, DCAV
Types of Devices:
What do they stand for?
- RP
- AG
- DCVA
- AVB
- HCVB
- DuC
- DCAP
- DCAV
Types of devices:
(RP) Reduced pressure principle backflow preventer
(AG) Air Gap
(DCVA) Double check Valve Assembly
(AVB) Atmospheric vacuum breaker
(HCVB) Hose connection vacuum breaker
(DuC) Dual Check backflow preventer
(DCAP) Dual Check backflow preventer with atmospheric port
(DCAV)
