When the soil is ploughed, it means that the soil is turned and loosened. When the soil is loosened, it becomes easier for the roots to penetrate deep into the soil, and breathe easily. The loosened soil helps in the growth of earthworms, which further loosens the soil, and adds humus to the soil. Science only a few centimetres of soil supports plant growth, turning the soil brings the nutrient rich soil to the top so the plants can use these nutrients.
