Define agriculture
Agriculture is the science of growing plants and raising animals useful to humans!
Define irrigation
The supply of water to crops at different intervals
What are the two main seasons for cultivation crops in India
The main two are Rabi and the Kharif season!
What is Rabi & Kharif?
Rabi are sown in the beginning of winter(October to November) and are called winter seasons crops, Kharif are the summer seasons crops sowing is done by the beginning of the rainy season in June and July!
Define Agriculture practices
The activities or task which a farmer performs to cultivate a crop is referred to as agriculture practices
Define ploughing or tilling
The process of turning and losening the soil is called ploughing or tilling
How is ploughing done?
This is done by using such devices such as ploug , hoe, cultivator etc
What is plough?
Plough is a wooden or metal device for tilling the soil , adding fertilizer to the crops and removing the weeds!
What is hoe?
Hoe is used for loosening the soil as well as for removing weeds. It is consists of a long rod of wood or iron. At one of the end, a strong broad, bent plates of iron is fixed. This acts as a knife. It is also driven by animals!
Define levelling
Levelling is done to make the surface of the soil uniform after the process of ploughing. It is done with the help of a wooden or iron leveller!
Define sowing
Sowing is a process of putting the seeeds in the soil. For sowing, good seeds are selected
What are the two methods of sowing seeds
Broadcasting & seed drills!
Broadcasting
Broadcasting is the method of sowing seeds by hand in a random manner
Seeds drill
A simple seed drill has a long pipe with a funnel at the top. It is tied to the plough.
Harvesting
Harvesting is the removal or cutting of a crop after maturity
Hand sickle
Hand sickle is used in traditional harvesting it was used as far as 5000 years ago
Threshing
The process of beating out the grains from the harvested crop plants is called threshing. Threshing is the process of loosening the edible part of the grain (or other crop) from the straw to which it is attached. It is the step in grain preparation after reaping.
Winnowing
Winnowing is used to separate heavier and lighter components of a mixture by wind or by blowing air. This process is used by farmers to separate lighter husk particles from heavier seeds of grain
Green revolution
The green revolution to the dramatic increase in agricultural productivity due to the use of improved variety of seeds
Domestication
The practice of keeping or rearing animals for specific purposes is called domestication
