The failure to give Henry a son
Anne gave birth to a girl Elizabeth. Henry was disappointed.
Anne was pregnant again by 1536 however she miscarried shortly after Henry had a serious jousting accident.
Henry was unsympathetic.
Henry’s need for a son
Henry was getting old and the accident made him fear that he could die without a son to carry the Tudor dynasty.
Henry was desperate for son and seemed Anne could not give him one.
Anne vs Jane Seymour
Henry had also begun to find Anne’s personality annoying.
She flirted with other men which Henry used against her.
Henry had also fallen in love with Jane Seymour.
The annulment of Anne Boleyn’s marriage to Henry
After a short trial the marriage was annulled by the Archbishop Cranmer.
Anne Boleyn’s execution
Anne was executed on the 19th of May 1536 in front of a crowd of 1000.
She declared her love for Henry and refused to admit her guilt.
Jane Seymour’s marriage to Henry
The day after Anne’s execution Henry proposed to Jane.
Henry rushed because he was so desperate for an heir.
Henry now had to illegitimate daughters from his two previous marriages.
Jane Seymour’s involvement in politics
Jane was not involved in politics apart from once when she asked Henry to spell rebels in the pilgrimage of grace.
Henry had threatened to execute her if she interfered again.
Edward VI
In October 1537 Jane gave birth to a son Edward.
However Jane died two weeks later from infection.
Henry mourned for three months.
