Criticisms Of Aquinas Flashcards
1
Q
He says nothing can be the cause of itself then then
A
Goes on to say something must exist and be the cause of itself (God) does he contradict himself
yes- its a logical contradiction
no - there has to be an exception to this rule or the universe would have no cause and not have come into existence
2
Q
Aquinas defends himself saying
A
God is the exception - because when we talk about God we talk about a being that’s unlike anything else
- God has a special form of existence that cannot be talked about in terms of logic
3
Q

A
why is God the exception? why not the universe?
