critical numbers 4: hypothesis testing Flashcards

1
Q

Q

hypothesis testing

A

assume no difference, null hypothesis- H0

H1/a- alternative hypothesis, theres is a difference, two tailed

0- impossible
1- certain

is there a statistically significat difference, set at 0.05 (probability we make a false positive conclusion ad reject the null hypothesis when it’s true)

calculate the test statsitic agaisnt the distribution we wpould expect under null hypothesis

use p value from t-test

The p-value is the probability of seeing an effect of the observed magnitude or greater if the null hypothesis were true

p is high- probale
p is low- not probable
