the two women failed to succeed because the personal features of their personality (tenderness, shyness, romanticism, restraint) contradict the objective and material characteristics of a society
in which individualism and a competitive nature ultimately prevail.
How does ‘the Glass menagerie’ help us in understanding blanche’s motives?
William’s illustrates in the play how women are unable to survive as they lack the required respect. This gives a viable jsutification as to why Blanche is so desperate to get married. She knows she cannot truly live a life in the world and be offered a degree of authentic respect as long as she is not a married woman.
How does Miller’s ‘death of a salesman’ link to streetcar?
It portrays a family through the generations and explores the interactions between dreams and reality in the form of willy loman and his deteriorating mental state and the web of lies that surrounds both stories. Willy has distorted visions of the american dream and his position in society which link to blanche’s distorted view aswell.

They are both faded southern belles who yearn for their youth and times of confort, they both also lack respect from society due to them not having a male figure beside them.
