Step 1:
The relationship starts strong.
“This I have thought good to deliver to thee, my dearest partner in greatness.”
Step 2:
They both have different reactions to the prophecy.
“Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; shalt be what thou art promis’d; yet I do fear thy nature, It is too full o’th’milk of human kindness to catch the nearest way.”
Step 3:
Macbeth wrestles his conscience, decides to take no action. However, Lady Macbeth manipulates him into killing Duncan.
M - “We will proceed no further in this business.”
LM - “Art thou afraid to be the same in thine own act and valour as thou art in desire?”
Step 4:
After Duncan is killed, Lady Macbeth draws to the shadows and Macbeth becomes more dominant.
“Be innocent of the knowledge, dearest chuck.”
Step 5:
They lose all contact, Lady Macbeth commits suicide - Macbeth takes an apathetic reaction to it.
“She should have died hereafter. Out, out brief candle.”
