Neuromuscular blockade

A

Total chemical paralysis.
No sedative or analgesic properties. WE WANT TO GIVE SEDATION.
Facilitate ET intubation and mechanical ventilation.

A

Measures level of sedation on a 10 point scale:

4 - combative
0 - calm/alert
-5 - unarousable

  • Fentanyl (opioid, used in pts that are hemodynamically unstable. Helps control pain and agitation without lowering BP)
  • Hydromorphone (Dilaudid)
