Operating pedestrian hand held applicators with hydraulic nozzles to apply pesticides to land
2.1) Candidate to identity all relevant risks to the environment for the application site (use environmental risk assessment before spraying)
May include the following:
public access
hedgerows
ground conditions
water courses
drains
boreholes
environmental margins/ strips/ areas
wildlife
non-target plants
sensitive crops / areas
housing
other risks particular to the site
2.2a) Candidate to explain how to minimise the risks identified in the site specific environmental risk assessment
check and maintain application rate
avoid spray drift
avoid off target application
observe buffer zones
inform neighbours
erect warning signs
use an appropriate pesticide (minimal environmental impact)
appropriate timing of application
2.2b) Candidate to state the reason for minimising spray drift or off target application
Avoid contamination of people and environment
2.2c) Candidate to check and comment on wind speed and direction
