Probable cause
Legal grounds needed to make an arrest or conduct a search
Search and seizure
Search of an accused’s property and collect any evidence relevant to the crime

Guardian ad litem
Person appointed to represent best interest of a child if the parent cannot or will not fulfill the responsibility
Bail
Accused is temporarily released from prison after paying money to guarantee an appearance in court
Prosecutor
States lawyer who is responsible for bringing charges against accused lawbreakers
Arraignment
Initial appearance of the accused in court
Grand jury
Legal body charged with the tack of conducting official proceedings to investigate potential criminal conduct
Plea bargain
Process by which the defendant agrees to a lesser charge
