-Magistrates court
-e.g. common assault or driving without insurance or license
-up to 6 months imprisonment (single offence), 12 months (two or more offences) and/or a fine of up to £5000

A
-tried either in magistrates or crown court
-e.g. theft, s.20 wounding/GBH, ABH
-up to maximum sentencing for specific offence , however, magistrates can’t sentence more than or 12 months

Indictable offences
A
-administrative hearing in MC, then transferred to CC for trial
-e.g. murder, manslaughter, robbery, s.18 wounding/GBH
-up to maximum sentencing for specific offence
