Anglo Saxon Kings were writing down laws and issuing codes of laws to other monarchs.
When were standard laws written down?
1154 when Henry II became King.
What is poaching?
Hunting wild animals on other people’s lands without hunting rights and is seen as a form of theft.
What is a social crime?
An illegal act that many people don’t regard as a crime.
What did Forest Laws do?
Banned people from hunting wild animals or gathering wood on land owned by the King.
What led to the increase of poaching?
Forest Laws because peasants used what had used to be common land to catch animals for food.
What affected the nature of crimes?
Changes in society.
Three things that changed that affected the nature of crimes?
Population growth.
The end of Feudalism.
Changes in religion.
How did population growth affect the nature of crime?
Unemployment rose. People moved to urban areas to find jobs. This led to crimes against a person such as petty theft.
How did changes in religion affect the nature of crime?
Crimes against authority since people were committing heresy and high treason for not following the religion of the monarch.
