when should we record crime?
as soon as practicable
do we record the crime the victim tells us or the crime it is by law?
we record what the law states the offence, not what the victim tells us it is.
what is a full crime report?
if the victim reports it to us, acting on behalf of a victim or a proffessional 3rd party
what is a crime related incident (CRI)?
if reported by non-proffessional 3rd party (witness) - anyone else
when do we record a CRI?
- 3rd party not on behalf of victim
- 3rd party report victim not known or cant be traced
- 3rd party report and when victim traced they fail or decline to confirm the crime.
- occurred out of force
What does the classification box on NICHE need?
if filled - full crime report
if not filled - CRI
What must be clearly made out if recording a state based crime?
points to prove to evidence the offence must be fully made out
what is the principle crime rule (basic def)?
if the sequence of crimes in an incident contains more than one type of crime, then record the most serious.
what must the incidents involve for the principle crime rule to be applied?
the incidents must involve the same offender and victim each time
where would you mention the other crimes when the principal crime rule is applied?
log them in the OEL - entry of the other crimes attached to most serious
what would be the crime you record under the PCR if there is a course of conduct of stalking, harrassment or controlling & coercive behaviour?
you record the stalking, harrassment or c&c even if other offences more serious
what is the finished incident rule?
an incident comprising a sequence of crimes between the same offender and victim should be counted as one crime if reported to the police all at once. should be counted as finished once bought to attention of police.
