What are news values and crime coverage?
A
The distorted picture of crime painted by the news media reflects that news is a social construction.
Cohen and Young- news is not discovered but manufactured.
News values- immediacy, dramatisation, personalisation, higher-status, simplification, novelty and unexpectedness, risk and violence.
Defiance is newsworthy as it is ‘abnormal’ behaviour.
