The elected gov’t with things originating from the bible=tradition
What does it mean to be just in the UK?
Keep society equal/ same law for everyone- followed and enforced
Do what is morally right for the majority
What is the Hebrew bible?
The Old Testament (written in Hebrew)
What are the 2 key components of biblical justice?
‘Tsdyk’
‘Dikaios’
The tsdyk know the rights for the poor; the wicked have no such understanding
Shows biblical justice is to do with rights for the poor.
Poor= someone who is somehow disadvantaged
‘According to Gods Law’ - dikaios
Suggests justice is not sinful but pleased God and follows biblical teachings.
‘There is no God apart from me, a righteous tsdyk God and a Saviour’ - Isaiah 45:21
God is superior
Justice is always about God
God= personification of justice
‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness dikaios’ - Matthew 5:6
To be blessed, you need to be righteous.
To be righteous is a good thing
To follow Gods law is good
‘Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God’ - 1 john 3:10
Anyone who does wrong is not a child of God
You must be a child of God to do what is right as it is following teachings
Therefore, only Christians can be righteous
What is biblical justice?
To follow gods law and the protection of the poor
Secular justice?
According to society and the gov’t as it’s society that benefits from the decisions
2 examples of Christians acting justly
1) Christian churches called for the national debt of poor countries to be cancelled
2) A catholic priest stopped josette from being sent back to the country she escaped from after the Rwandan genocide in 1994
Why you don’t need to be Christian to have the motivation to be just
- different motives but same passion for motives
- natural instinct to save someone
- not all Christians would go to the extreme of the priest
- some people are more selfless than selfish
Uk’s standard for justic
Expected that everyone knows to be fai and stand for the greater good of society e.g human rights
