Domestic Violence

A

1976 - Domestic Violence Act, victims right to ask for injunction against violent partners
1991 - law in Britain changed to recognise rape within marriage. Able to persecute husbands for raping wives
2014 - Controlling or coercive behaviour to partner = crime. Included control of who they can see, dress, their money, phone and ability to leave the house
19th Century women were seen as objects - 20th century campagins for women’s rights + feminism

Abortion

A

1967 - Abortion Act, abortion legalised if certain conditions were met:
child could have serious disabilities
Mother at risk of serious physical or mental harm
Had to be agreed by two independant doctors
1968 legal abortion limit was 28 weeks (24 weeks today)
