Puts the onus on organisations that store data to ensure that the data being stored is secure
What are the consequences of the Data Protection Act 1998?
The company/organisation could be heavily fined and lose their reputation if data is unlawfully accessed, damaged or lost
What is the purpose of the Copyright and Patents Act 1990?
Makes it illegal to copy and distribute software, images, music, movies, etc. without the permission of the Copyright owner
What are the consequences of the Copyright and Patents Act 1990?
The copyright infringer could face:
- Unlimited fines
- Up to 10 years in prison
- Sued for damaged by the Copyright owner
- Lose reputation, promotion prospects or even their job
