Department of Transport - speeding statistics
According to the Government department of transport, over 52% of drivers speed on 30mph roads.
> Argument in favour of middle and upper classes committing crime, as many people living in deprivation cannot afford a vehicle.
CJS - majority prison population
As of June 2022, 96% of the prison population were male, while 4% of the prison population were female.
CJS - women serving shorter prison sentences
As of June 2022, 17% of females were serving sentences of less than 12 months, compared to 7% of males.
CJS - homicide victims
In 2020/21, of the 594 homicides recorded, 70% of victims were male and 30% female.
In over half (54%) of female homicide victims (where the suspect was known), the suspect was their partner or ex-partner.
HM Inspectorate of Prisons Survey - female prisoners mental health
In 2021/22, compared to males, a higher proportion of females reported: self-declared mental health problems, physical disability, having drug and alcohol problems, money worries and housing worries.
CJS - Black offenders over-represented
In 2021, Black males were particularly over-represented, accounting for 12% of all male prosecutions. This compared to Black females accounting for 7% of all female prosecutions.
