CRF & intro to neuro Flashcards
What is the purpose of the CRF?
It provides a problem list for a patient who has a neurological health condition. Our goal with this is to optimise recovery & minimise loss of function.
What is rehabilitation & when should it start?
Rehabilitation should start asap after diagnosis.
It is the active process by which those who are affected achieve a full recovery from injury or disease.
Which functional areas do we see problems in when someone is affected by any neurological condition?
Sensory (visual, vestibular & somatosensory)
Motor
Cognitive & perceptual
Name the 3 ascending tracks of the somatosensory system.
Dorsal Column Pathway
Trigeminal System
Anterolateral system pathway
Name the 4 descending tracts of the somatosensory system.
Corticobulbar
Corticospinal
Vestibulospinal
Reticulospinal
What can you use the homunculus map for and how?
To hypothesise which blood vessel in the brain has caused the stroke of a patient. Using artery anatomy & the map to pinpoint position of occlusion.
Corticobulbar descending tract function & pathway?
Voluntary movement of the face & head.
Cortex - motor nuclei - cranial nerves to muscles of face & head
Corticospinal descending tract function & pathway?
Voluntary movement of the trunk & limbs.
Cortex - spinal cord - muscles of trunk & limbs
Vestibulospinal descending tract function & pathway?
Postural control of the trunk & limbs.
Vestibular nucleus - spinal cord - muscles of trunk & limbs
Reticulospinal descending tract function & pathway?
Postural control of the trunk & limbs.
medulla/ pons - spinal cord - muscles of trunk & limbs
Dorsal Column System ascending tract function?
Touch & proprioception of limbs & trunk
Trigeminal System ascending tract function?
Touch and proprioception of face & mouth
Anterolateral system ascending tract function?
Pain, temperature & touch of trunk & limbs
