Producer
In charge of business aspects and shares artistic decisions with the director.
Production Manager
Oversees the shooting schedule, payments, and crew hiring on a different level than the Producer.
Production Coordinator
Manages Production Office details like memos, shipping, and organization.
Unit Production Manager
On-set manager responsible for crew needs like meals, transportation.
Director
In charge of creative aspects, casting, art direction, and guiding actors.
1st Assistant Director
The foreman of the crew ensures the shoot is on track, calls for silence on set, and reports to the production manager.
2nd Assistant Director
Assists the 1st AD, prepares call sheets, and liaises with the production office.
3rd Assistant Director
Responsible for the cast being on time, paperwork, and timely processing through makeup, hair, and wardrobe departments.
Trainee Assistant Director
Assists AD department, places extras, and supports crew as needed.
Script Supervisor/Continuity
Ensures continuity for the editor, tracks details within each shot.
Director of Photography
Determines visual style, selects camera team, and works with the film lab.
Camera Operator
Maintains composition, focus, and artistic requirements specified by the DOP. Preventing unwanted shadows and lens flares that may occur while shooting
1st Assistant (Focus Puller)
Orders camera equipment, maintains focus, carries out proper zooms, and assists in camera setup.
2nd Assistant (Clapper/Loader)
Manages film stock, paperwork, slating shots, and camera equipment.
Trainee
Learns from the 2nd assistant, assists the camera department.
Stills Photographer
Takes production and publicity stills, works closely with the Unit Publicist.
Gaffer
Head of the Lighting Department, responsible for the lighting crew and equipment. Lights scene based on the DOP’s vision.
Best Boy
Main assistant to the Gaffer, operates lights as directed.
Lamp Operator
Places and operates lights under the Gaffer’s direction.
Generator Operator (Gennie Op)
Ensures power supply to set and trailers by managing the generator.
Key Grip
Leads grip crew. They sandbag all lighting, camera, and grip equipment for safety and are generally responsible for everything to do with lighting that is not electric.
Dolly Grip
In charge of dolly placement and dolly track placement. They make sure all dolly shots are performed smoothly and per the DOP’s vision.
Art Director
In charge of set design elements in tandem with the production designer. They also direct the departments related to the visual style of the show/movie.
Set Decorator
Dress the set with furniture and other items to give it character. In charge of moving set pieces for the crew as needed and resetting the set after takes.
