Q

What is Creative writing?

A

The word “creativity” comes from a Latin word“creo”which means to make or create something. The word “creativity” did not exist in Ancient Greece; arts or works were not considered creative work but rather a form of imitation. It was only in the 18th century during the Age of Enlightenment that the concept of creativity emerged. William Durf, a Scottish Presbyterian minister and writer, was the first to identify imagination as a quality of genius.
Daniel Pink’s argument in his book,A Whole New Mind, (2005) uggested that creativity was not just reserved for some or innately acquired by a few select individuals but rather, it was something that could be learned.
Creative writing is writing done in a way that is not academic or technical but still attracts an audience. This form of writing expresses writer’s feelings and emotions which will enable the audience to understand what the writer wants to pass through. Creative writing can be any writing activity that is original and self-expressive. Creative writing entertains and share human experiences. The writer uses imagination to make his or her story live and interesting.
In a very general definition, creative writing is any form of writing that is written more from the idea of entertaining the reader rather than informing them.
