Q

What did man have in early civ?

A

The Bible teaches that early man was rather intelligent: he had the power of language; he had forging technology (Tubal-Cain, Gen. 4); he had musical capabilities (Jabal); he had city-building technology (Enoch); he had agriculture, both animal husbandry and crop-farming. He had some conception of a legal code and punishment (Lamech’s lament in Gen. 4).

Q

How did King rule probably develop?

A

They naturally tried to secure more, and preserve the status quo; they also sought to extend those privileges to their progeny. With time their descendants become associated with a right to rule, and social differences become codified in culture as social class, with economic and political ramifications. We do have hard evidence of a king-like ruler inNimrod, a “mighty one” and a “mighty hunter before the LORD” who controlled territory likely somewhere around modern-day Turkey and northern Iraq (Genesis 10:8-9; Micah 5:6 NASB)

Q

How did idol religion develop?

A

soon after the Fall man turned hisheart toward false gods; some point to Genesis 4:26, in the time of Enosh, grandson of Adam, as evidence (“Then men began to call upon the name of the LORD”)—i.e., the true believers are differentiating themselves vocally from those who have pursued other idols. Whether the practice developed at this point or not, essentially all peoples around the world have worshiped something, though our firm evidence for this phenomenon is post-Flood. In most places a priest class developed; they may have been people who accurately predicted natural phenomena, thus convincing people of their greater knowledge of the sacred and mysterious.
