Q

When referring to creation, what are fundamentalists called? Give some examples of their beliefs.

A

Evangelical or ‘Creationists’. Believe the Bible is the word of God and is factual. Humans and dinosaurs lived at the same time (the 6th day). Earth about 5000 years old like it says in the Bible. Each day in G1 was 24 hours. God commanded things and they appeared.. The world created in 7 24 hour days. Bible is free from error. New Earth Christians. Brought all life form 9no evolution).

Q

Summarise the “Creation of Adam”

A

Painted by Michelangelo 1508 - 1512 in the Sistene Chapel.
“They were naked and not ashamed” Genesis 2.
Arm reaching out showing we need a link with God. However, Adam isn’t really reaching back as sometimes we don’t want a relationship with God.
Not holding hands shows free will, epistemic distance has to be at a certain distance to allow free will.
Mirror each other to show the Image of God.
God is elderly - wisdom, omniscient. Floating - omnipotent. In white - purity. Human brain - knowledge and power or placenta - what you need to create life.

Q

What did St Catherine of Sienna say about Imago Dei?

A

She said that our soul and God mirror each other so we are made in the image of God. Evidence of this in three ways - God made us so we are like him and we are made up of complex DNA. That we have a conscience so we are able to choose between right and wrong. Life is sacred.
