what was the 1921 unemployment act
- The Act was a universal benefit - allowed the eligibilty for all men - for the first time women recieved 60%
- not means tested + people no longer had to pay in to recieve benefits
As a result of this
The act allowed for a massive increase in welfare provision
Because
It had ensured unemployed have a decent standard of living
what was the 1931 Act
- the governmentt made 10% cuts
- reintroduced means test
- the governmets aim was to reduce the number of people elegible for benefits

-the 1931 Act excasberated hardships for those living in deprived parts of britain
- resulted in 3 million unemployed during the great depression
what was the 1934 unemployment assistance act
- improved + reformed from the 1931 act by reversing the 10% cuts
- followed an insurance based system- pay in to recevie benefits
how did the 1934 act have a significant / beneficial impact
- ## 14 million people who paid in - 6 months of benefit payments
The negative of the 1934 Act
- a large number of people people couldn’t afford to pay in to receieve benefits
- welfare provision didn’t improve for all-
what was the pensions act
- The Act targeted many elderly people who lived in poverty
- allowed them amongst widows and orphans to claim 10 shillings a week
therfore why did the pensions act improve welfare provision
- increased welfare provision as government were protecting elderly who had been working all their life

- commissioned report on how to improve welfare provion after the war so britain wouldn’t follow the social +poverty problems from 1930’s great depression

- bedvrige was a liberal and social reformer
- aim was on wanting welfare to be ‘universal’ system not a piecemeal system
