-provides a jugular foramen and carotid canal for major blood supply to brain

-bat/butterfly shaped posterior to frontal bone
-OPTIC CANALS: round hole which optic nerves pass through
-unique depression called the STELLA TURCICA that houses pituitary gland
ethmoid bone
deepest cranial bone; anterior to sphenoid bone and posterior to nasal bone
-forms roof of nasal cavity
-CRIBRIFORM PLATE: divides cranial cavity from nasal cavity
