Olfactory Nerve -
Sensory from olfactory epithelium.
Passes ththroughru cribiform plate.
CN II
Optic Nerve -
Sensory from retina (vision).
Passes through optic canal.
CN III
Oculomotor Nerve -
Motor to dorsal, medial, and ventral rectus mm., ventral oblique m., & levator palpebrae superioris m.
Parasympathetic to ciliary ganglion (iris sphincter m.)
Passes through orbital fissure.
CN IV
Trochlear Nerve -
Motor to dorsal oblique m.
Passes through orbital fissure.
CN V
Trigeminal Nerve (V1, V2, V3) -
Ophthalmic Branch -
Sensory from globe, periorbita, nasal mucosa, medial aspect of palpebrae.
Passes thru orbital fissure.
Maxillary Branch -
Sensory from upper lip, nasal mucosa, lateral aspect of palpebrae. Passes through foramen rotundum & rostral alar foramen
Mandibular Branch -
Sensory from lower jaw & auriculotemporal area.
Motor to mm. of mastication.
Passes thru foramen ovale.
CN VI
Abducens Nerve -
Motor to retractor bulbi m. & lateral rectus m.; passes thru orbital fissure
CN VII
Facial Nerve -
Motor to mm. of facial expression, & sensory (taste) from rostral 2/3 of tongue.
Parasympathetic to salivary and lacrimal glands.
Passes thru stylomastoid foramen (motor fibers) & internal acoustic meatus.
CN IIX
Vestibulocochlear Nerve -
Sensory for hearing and balance.
Passes thru internal acoustic meatus.
CN IX
Glossopharyngeal Nerve -
Sensory from tongue & pharyngeal mucosa, & motor to pharynx. Parasympathetic to parotid & mucosal glands.
Passes thru jugular foramen & tympanooccipital fissure.
CN XI
Spinal Accessory Nerve -
Motor to sternocephalicus, cleidocephalicus, omotransversarius, and trapezius mm. (S.C.O.T.)
Motor to larynx via recurrent laryngeal n.
Passes through jugular foramen & tympanooccipital fissure.
CN XII
Hypoglossal Nerve -
Motor to extrinsic & intrinsic mm. of tongue.
Passes through hypoglossal canal.
