CRANIAL NERVES/ARRANGEMENTS Flashcards
What are the components of GSA?
General Somatic Afferent: Somatosensory: TOUCH/PAIN/PROPRIOCEPTION/TEMPERATURE
CN: 5, 7, 9, 10
What are the components of GVA?
General Visceral Afferent: VISCERAL INFO; carotid/heart rate/etc
CN: 9, 10,
THINK VISCERAL ORGANS; GI, AUTONOMIC
What are the components of SSA?
Special Somatic Afferents: SPECIAL SENSES; sight, sound, balance
CN: 1, 2, 8
What are the components of SVA?
Special Visceral Afferent: Taste, Smell
CN: 7 (2/3) 9, 10 (the palate)
THINK VISCERAL ORGANS; GI - Taste and Smell
What are the components of GSE?
General Somatic Efferent: Tongue, Eyeball
CN: 3, 4, 6, 12
What are the 7 constitute groups of the BS?
GSA, GVA (autonomic), SSA, SVA (SS = senses)
GSE (Muscles of Special Senses - Eye/Tongue), SVE (brachial pouches), GVE (autonomic)
What is the organization of the 7 constitute groups from medial to lateral?
GSE (eyeball/tongue) ,SVE (branchial pouches), GVE, GVA (autonomic)/SVE (taste), GSA, SSA/SVE (smell)
Efferent Complex: Constitutes
GSE, SVE, GVE (Most lateral)
2 Generals/2 Viscerals - GSG/SVV
Afferent Complex: Constitutes
GVA/SVA(Taste), GSA, SSA/SVA (smell)
What are the components of GVE?
General Visceral Efferents: Autonomic - abdominal organs
CN: 9, 10
What are the components of SVE?
Special Visceral Efferents: Branchial Pouches; Muscles of Mastication, Muscles of Facial Expression, Pharynx, Larynx
CN: 5, 7, 10, 12
What are the trigeminal nuclei and their functions?
There are 4 nuclei. MC SM
- Mesencephalic: (M = muscle spindle) - Proprioception
- Chief Sensory: Fine/tactile touch
- Spinal Trigeminal: Pain
- Motor Nucleus: Muscles of Mastication, Tensor Tympani
Tensor Tympani - what is the function?
Tensor Tympani: is a muscle innervated by the Mandibular Branch of the Trigeminal Nerve - its function is to dampen sound.
What is the Nucleus Ambiguus? What column does it fall under? What is its function? What CN contribute?
The Nucleus aMbiguus: is a motor nuclei, it is a part of the GVE (Column 3 of Motor). Its function is to assist in swallowing and prevent food from getting into the nasopharynx.
CN 9 - innervates the stylopharyngeal which raises the pharynx and larynx - allows for swallowing
CN 10 - innervates the Levator Palati - prevents the entry of food into the nasopharynx.
What is the Solitary Nucleus: What column does it fall under? What is its function? What CN contribute?
The Solitary Nucleus is a Sensory body of cells that are involved with TASTE and AUTONOMIC SENSATION.
The Rostral part: TASTE - CN 7, 9, 10 (epiglottis, pharynx)
The Caudal part: Autonomic Sensation/Sensory:
10 - Heart and Abdominal Viscera
9 - Carotid Body and Sinus
