CN III
Oculomotor nerve
Motor: eyelid; looking up or down.
Parasympathetic: pupilconstrictor.
CN VII
Facial nerve
Motor: facial expression; stapedius muscle (reduce loud sounds); posterior part digastric muscle (important for speech, swallowing and breathing).
Sensory: taste anterior 2/3 of the tongue; sensation small region near the external auditory meatus (ear canal).
Parasympathetic: tear glands; salivary glands.
CN IX
Glossopharyngeal nerve
Motor: stylopharyngeus muscle (elevation larynx and pharynx).
Sensory: taste and sensation of posterior 1/3 of the tongue; sensation from middle ear, region near the auditory meatus and pharynx; chemo- and baroreceptors of carotid body.
Parasympathetic: parotid gland (saliva).
CN X
Vagus nerve
Motor: pharyngeal muscle (swallow and gag); laryngeal muscles (voice).
Sensory: taste from epiglottis and pharynx; sensation from pharynx, meninges and a small region near the external auditory meatus; chemo- and baroreceptors of the aortic arch.
Parasympathetic: info to heart, lungs and digestive tract.
CN II
Optic nerve
Sensory: sight.
CN VIII
Vestibulocochlear nerve
Sensory: hearing and vestibular sense from structures of the inner ear.
CN XII
Hypoglossal nerve
Motor: tongue muscles.
CN V
Trigeminal nerve
Motor: muscles of mastication; tensor tympani muscle (eardrum tensioner) to reduce loudness.
Sensory: pain/touch/temperature/joint position/vibration for face, mouth, anterior 2/3 of tongue, nasal sinuses and meninges.
CN XI
Spinal accessory nerve
Motor: sternomastoid and upper part of trapezius muscle (shrugging and looking to left and right).
CN IV
Trochlear nerve
Motor: intorsion of eye (scheel kijken).
CN VI
Abducens nerve
Motor: abduction eye (naar buiten kijken).
CN I
olfactory nerve
Sensory: smell.
