What is the proper name for CNI? How does one test it?
Olfactory nerve. One asks the patient if they have noticed any changes to their sense of smell. Although it is not often performed in clinic one can test this with strong distinct smells such as coffee mint orange etc
What is the proper name for CNII? How does one test it?
Optic nerve. Testing of the optic nerve looks at four sections.
Acuity: One asks the patient about changes in vision and their usual acuity, The patient can be asked to read a portion of text one eye at a time. A Snellen chart can be used for measurement of acuity.
Fundus: Perform a fundoscopy
Visual fields: Inattention is tested first. This is done by wiggling fingers at the periphery of the patient’s vision and observing whether or not they notice the movement. The second test is that of visual fields
Papillary reflexes: Test direct and consensual reflexes then perform a swinging light test for RAPD.
