15
Q

Olfactory Nerve Assessment

A

Patient uses sense of Smell

16
Q

Spinal Accessory

A

Assessing ability to shrug shoulders & turn head against pressure

17
Q

Facial Nerve Assessment

A

~Facial Symmetry~

18
Q

Hypoglossal Nerve Assessment

A

~Involves Tongue~ (Often combined with CN IX & CN X assessments)
Have pt. stick out tongue, should be midline
Look for difficulty eating, swallowing, or speaking

19
Q

Abducens Nerve Assessment

A

Movement of Eye toward each ear (Outward)

20
Q

CN I: Olfactory Nerve
CN II: Optic Nerve
CN VIII: Aucoustic Nerve (aka:Vestibulocochlear Nerves)

A

Sensory Nerves

21
Q

Trigeminal Nerve Assessment

A
Involves most of the face
 • Forehead
 • Cheek
 • Jaw
Facial Sensation (Sharp/Dull recognition) & Jaw Strength Assessment
22
Q
CN III: Occulomotor Nerve
CN IV: Trochlear Nerve
CN VI: Abducens Nerve
CN XI: Spinal Accessory Nerve
CN XII: Hypoglossal Nerve
A

Motor Nerves

23
Q

Acoustic Nerve Assessment

A

~Assessing the ability to hear & Balance Disorders r/t the inner ear are often assessed at this point.

  • Whisper Test
  • Romberg Test
25
Q

Trigeminal Nerve Assessment

A

Nurse will ask the patient to close their eyes & identify sensations of the face when touched. (Identify Sharp/dull sensations.

  • forehead
  • cheeks
  • jaw strength
25
Q

Glossopharyngeal & Vagus Nerve Assessment

A

~Assess gag reflex by asking pt. say “ahh”
~Touching the back of throat with depressor
~Ability to taste Salt, Sweet, & Sour.

  • Whisper Test- whisper into pt. ear and repeat what was said.
26
Q

CN V: Trigeminal Nerve
CN VII: Facial Nerve
CN IX: Glossopharyngeal Nerve
CN X: Vagus Nerve

A

Both Sensory & Motor Nerves
