Cranial Nerves Flashcards
What is CNI
olfactory bulb (smell)
what is CN II
optic nerve (vision)
What is CN III
oculomotor nerve (motor/ pupillary constriction)
what is CN IV
trochlear nerve (motor/ torsion of the eye)
what is CN V
trigeminal nerve
(sensory/motor)
what is CN VI
Abducens nerve
(motor/ abd eye)
what is CN VII
Facial Nerve (motor/ taste)
What is CN VIII
Vestibulocochlear Nerve (sensory)
What is CN IX
Glossopharyngeal nerve (motor/sensory/ taste)
what is CN X
Vagus nerve (motor/sensory/taste)
what is CN XI
Accesory Nerve
(motor)
what is CN XII
hypoglossal nerve (motor to tongue)
what are the cranial nerves located in the midbrain
CN III oculomotor, CN IV trochlear
what are the cranial nerves located in the pons
(CNV-CNVIII)
CN V trigeminal, CN VI abducens, CN VII facial nerve, CN VIII vestibulocochlear
what are the cranial nerves located in the medulla?
CN IX glossopharyngeal, CN X Vagus, CN XI accesory nerve, CN XII hypoglossal nerve
what blood vessels supplies the medulla?
the vertebral artery
what cranial nerves are responsible for eye movement?
- CN III oculomotor nerve controls SR, IO, MR, and IR. Allows the eye to looks up and down and medially.
-CN IV trochlear nerve controls the superior oblique muscle and allows the eye to move down and out.
CN VI abducens controls the lateral rectus and abducts the eye.
what is the largest CN in the pons?
CN V trigeminal provides innervation to the muscles of mastication and sensory innervation to the face, mouth, teeth, and nasal cavity. It carries pain, heat, cold, and discriminative touch.
V1= opthalamic sensory
v2= maxillary sensory
v3= mandibular sensory and motor
what CN carry parasympathetic information?
-CN III oculomotor carries the pupillary reflex
-CN VII facial carries the sublingual salivary glands
-CN IX glossopharyngeal carries parotid salivary glands
-CN X vagus regulates HR and breath
