Cranial Nerves Flashcards
How many sensory cranial nerves are there?
Three
What are the sensory cranial nerves?
Olfactory, Optic & Vestibulocochlear
How many motor cranial nerves are there?
Five
What are the five motor cranial nerves?
Oculomotor, Trochlear, Abducens, (Spinal) Accessory, Hypoglossal
How many sensory and motor cranial nerves are there?
Four
What are the four sensory and motor cranial nerves?
Trigeminal, Facial, Glossopharyngeal, Vagus
Carries impulses for the sense of smell
Olfactory
Carries impulses for vision
Optic
Supplies motor fibers to four of the six muscles (superior, inferior, and medial rectus, and inferior oblique) that direct the eyeball; to the eyelid; and to the internal eye muscles controlling lens shape and pupil size
Oculomotor
Supplies motor fibers to four of the six muscles (superior, inferior, and medial rectus, and inferior oblique) that direct the eyeball; to the eyelid; and to the internal eye muscles controlling lens shape and pupil size
Oculomotor
Supplies motor fibers for one external eye muscle (superior oblique)
Trochlear
Conducts sensory impulses from the skin of the face and mucosa of the nose and mouth; also contains motor fibers that activate the chewing muscles
Trigeminal
Supplies motor fibers to the lateral rectus muscle, which rolls the eye laterally
Abducens
Activates the muscles of facial expression and the lacrimal and salivary glands; carries sensory impulses from the taste buds of anterior tongue
Facial
Purely sensory; vestibular branch transmits impulses for the sense of balance, and cochlear branch transmits impulses for the sense of hearing
Vestibulocochlear
