  • Temporal Lobe - Olfactory Tract (through the cribiform foramina) - Olfactory Bulb - Nasal Cavity

  • Anosmia/ Hyposmia (loss of smell)

What are the causes of Loss of Smell?

A
  • Head/ Facial Injury
  • Anterior CF Injury
  • Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s
  • Upper Respiratory Tract infection ( lined with respiratory mucosa which is swollen - this stops chemicals reaching the olfactory nerves)

What is the route of the Optic Nerve?

A
  • Retinal Ganglion - axons from the optic nerve - back of the orbit via the optic canal - fibres cross and merge to form the optic chiasm - optic tract - primary visual cortex - occipital lobe
