Cranial Nerves Flashcards
1
Q
What are the order of the Cranial Nerves?
A
- Olfactory
- Optic
- Oculomotor
- Trochlear
- Abducens
- Trigeminal
- Facial
- Vestibulocochlear
- Glossopharyngeal
- Vagus
- Hypoglossal
- Accessory
2
Q
What does the Olfactory nerve supply?
A
- Gives you a special sense of smell
3
Q
What is the Route of the Olfactory Nerve?
A
- Temporal Lobe - Olfactory Tract (through the cribiform foramina) - Olfactory Bulb - Nasal Cavity
4
Q
What is the test for the Olfactory Nerve?
A
- Anosmia/ Hyposmia (loss of smell)
5
Q
What are the causes of Loss of Smell?
A
- Head/ Facial Injury
- Anterior CF Injury
- Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s
- Upper Respiratory Tract infection ( lined with respiratory mucosa which is swollen - this stops chemicals reaching the olfactory nerves)
6
Q
What does the Optic Nerve Supply?
A
- Special Sense of Vision
7
Q
What is the route of the Optic Nerve?
A
- Retinal Ganglion - axons from the optic nerve - back of the orbit via the optic canal - fibres cross and merge to form the optic chiasm - optic tract - primary visual cortex - occipital lobe
