What is cranial nerve I and it’s function?
Olfactory nerve. Smell. Sensory
What is cranial nerve II?
Optic nerve. Vision. Sensory.
What is cranial nerve III?
Oculomotor. Motor. Extrinsic eye muscles and pupillary sphincter.
What is cranial nerve IV?
Trochlear. Motor Superior oblique (muscles that control eyeball rotation)
What is cranial nerve V?
Trigeminal.
Sensory:
- face sensation
- Anterior 2/3 of tongue sensation
Motor:
- Mastication
What is cranial nerve VI?
Abducens. Motor . Lateral rectus (moves eye laterally)
What is cranial nerve VII?
Facial.
Sensory:
1) Taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue, hard and soft palate
Motor:
- facial expression
- eye closing
- salivation
What is cranial nerve VIII?
Vestibulocochlear (auditory). Hearing and balance. Sensory
What is cranial nerve IX?
Glossopharyngeal.
Sensory:
- Taste and sensation post 1/3 of tongue
Motor:
- Swallowing, salivating - Stylopharyngeus
What is cranial nerve X?
Vagus.
Sensory:
1) Ear, larynx and pharynx
2) Taste and sensation from epiglottis
3) Smooth muscles of pharynx and larynx
Motor:
1) Swallow
2) Speech
3) Cough
What is cranial nerve XI?
Spinal accessory.
Motor
1) Trapezius and sternocleidomastoid
Head turning and shoulder shrugging
What is cranial nerve XII?
Hypoglossal. Motor.
Intrinsic and extrinsic tongue muscles
Tongue movement!
