detect smells with oils
test for optic
use visual chart and check visual fields
test for oculomotor, trochlear, and abducens
check if eyelids are droopy, follows finger left and right, and close and far
test for trigeminal
clench teeth and move jaw from side to side. sharp vs dull sensation around face
test for facial
smiling, puffing cheeks, raise eyebrows, show teeth
test for acoustic
whisper test
test for glossopharyngeal and Vagus
saying ‘ah’ soft palate should rise, stimulate gag reflex on SIDE of mouth
test for spinal accessory
turn head against hand, move shoulders upwards
test for hypoglossal
tongue movement side to side, say “light, tight, dynamite”
