Cranial Nerve 1
Olfactory, odors
Cranial Nerve 2
Optic, The pt is positioned in standing a selected distance from a chart or diagram. The therapist asks the pt to identify objects or read selected items.
Cranial nerve 3
Oculomotor, The pt is positioned in sitting and asked to follow an object such as a writing utensil w their eyes as it moved vertically, horizontally, and diagonally. Test for asymmetry or ptosis.
Cranial Nerve 4
Trochlear, Pt is sitting and ask to follow a pen in the inf. direction, positive if inability to depress eyes or diplopia
Cranial nerve 5
Trigeminal, Pt is sitting and ask to close eyes, test sharp and dull on face. Mandible protrusion, retraction and lat deviation.
Cranial nerve 6
Abducens, Pt sitting and abduct eyes
Cranial nerve 7
Facial, The pt is asked to distinguish between sweet and salty sub on ant portion of the tongue. Mimic facial expressions
Cranial nerve 8
Vestibulocochlear, ticking watch 18-24 inches and 512 hz tuning fork w Rinne or weber test
Cranial nerve 9
Glossopharyngeal, gag reflex, taste post 1/3 tongue
Cranial nerve 10
Vagus, gag reflex and movmt of soft palate and uvula
Cranial nerve 11
Accessory, shld shrug
Cranial nerve 12
Hypoglossal, stick out tongue or dev to one side
