Analogy
It helps the reader understand something that is not very familiar by comparing it to something that is familiar(known very well)
Also it shows how those too things are alike(similar) by comparing them to each other.
Ex: she is blind as a bat(animal)
In this example the girl is compared to a bat.
Anecdote
It is a simple, short , interesting story of a real live incident and it tells the reader something about the author.
Ex: One evening, I went to see a movie with my roommate and some other people from our dorm. I drove my car to the theater. Imagine our surprise when we got to the car to find the windshield covered with slices of ham. To this day, I don’t know who put ham on my car or why.
Comparison
Find the similarities( things that are the same) and the difference( things that are different) between two or more things or people.
Example : earth and mars
Contrast
Points out the different things between two ideas or characters
Ex:

Shows the different points between two characters or ideas
Example:
thunder storms on one end of an island and clear, blue skies on the other end.
Causes and effects
It tells the reader how an event occurred or happened and what were the results of the event.
Example: a man offends his neighbor by insulting him (the cause). His neighbor becomes angry (the effect)
Figurative language
This is when words or a sentence that are meaningful( has lots of meaning) but not literally(quite) true.
Ex: you are my sunshine
Or
the warrior has a heart of a stone
Sensory language ( onomatopoeia)
Words or sentences that make a connection to one or more of the five senses: sight, sound, taste, smell, touch.
Ex: gobbling up ( eating a large amount of food quickly) each of her words as quickly as she could.
Simile ( comparison)
a figure of speech comparing two unlike things that is often introduced by like or as
Personification
It is when non living things are given human traits(quality)
Ex: replace swaying(moving) flowers with dancing flowers.
Telegraphic sentences
They are very brief and they focus on the point.
Asyndeton
It is a literary device that excludes( does not include) conjunctions(but,and,or,for, so, yet).
Example: ( I came, i saw)
Ex2: ( Margaret Atwood, Alice Munro)
Chiasmus
It is a two part sentence or phrase where the second part of the sentence is a reversal( opposite ) of the first part.
Ex: we were elected to change Washington, and we let Washington change us.
Allegory
A story,poem, or a picture that can interpreted to show a hidden Meaning which may deal with religious, political or personal issues.
Example: animal farm a movie
Alliteration
The repetition ( repeated more than once) of the same letter or sound at the beginning of words that are close to each other.
Ex: Peter piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
