CR3 Terminology Flashcards

1
Q

Design

A

The technical and management processes which commence with the identification of design input and which lead to and includes the issuance of design output documents (Ref. ANSI N45.2.11). Software used in design is also part of the process. It must be developed and maintained in accordance with established controls. This includes analytical routines embedded in the software package and generic or standard modeling typically used with the software

Q

Design Input

A

Those criteria, parameters, bases, or other design requirements, updated to reflect all approved changes, upon which final design is based (Ref. ANSI N45.2.11). Design Inputs per ANSI N45.2.11 are identified in EGR-NGGC-0005.

Design Output Document

A

Documents such as drawings, specifications, calculation/analyses, and other design documents that define technical requirements of systems, structures or components (SSC) (Ref. ANSI N45.2.11).

Q

Design Verification Review

A

The process of independently reviewing, confirming, or substantiating the design by one or more methods to provide assurance that the design meets the specified design inputs. Acceptable verification methods include but are not limited to: 1) Design Review; 2) Alternate Calculation, 3) Qualification Testing. (Ref. ANSI N45.2.11)

Q

Owner’s Review

A

A review performed on designs and/or design output documents received from external sources including, but not limited to A/E’s, NSSS Suppliers, vendors, or other company organizations, external to the Nuclear Generation Group. An Owner’s Review is not a design verification review, but is a review to determine the acceptability and validity of the externally generated document. Owner’s review is the process of establishing NGG possession, jurisdiction, and authority with respect to this design and/or design output documents. Ownership is demonstrated by the ability to properly use, prudently change, and explain the characteristics of the design or design output document.

Q

Special Engineering Review

A

A review performed by personnel with technical competence in the subject matter as determined by virtue of training or experience to confirm regulatory requirements and licensing commitments are satisfied by the design.

Q

Calculation

A

A document which records the details and results of analytical or computational processes. These processes translate inputs, assumptions, constraints, standards, and methods into outputs that may be used in specifying or authorizing design requirements or operating parameters for systems, structures, or components. The calculation may include analysis of alternate, past or future configurations in addition to the current configuration. For the purpose of this procedure, “calculation” is synonymous with “analysis”.

16
Q

Check-in/check-out Tool

A

An interface application used with PassPort for retrieving and transferring controlled documents.

17
Q

Beta ratio

A

The ratio of the diameter of the restricted opening of a flow element, such as an orifice plate, to the inside diameter of the pipe in which the flow element is located (d/D).

18
Q

Centistoke

A

A unit of viscosity. The viscosity of water at 72 degrees F and 14.7 psia is equal to one centistoke.

19
Q

Discharge coefficient

A

The ratio of the actual rate of flow through a differential pressure flow element to the theoretical rate of flow calculated from mass and energy balance equations. In general, the actual flow rate is less than the theoretical flow rate.

20
Q

Flow Profile

A

The values of velocity components in the direction of flow across the cross section of a flowing fluid.

21
Q

Head

A

Pressure expressed in terms of the height of a column of the fluid.
Velocity head is the pressure exerted by a flowing fluid in the direction of flow due to its kinetic energy.

22
Q

Reynolds Number

A

A dimensionless number indicative of the dynamic state of a flowing fluid. The Reynolds number reflects the ratio of inertial forces to viscous forces.
