CR Processes Flashcards
Describe the Role
1) Identify Question - bold face, common word “role”
2) Deconstruct argument - find conclusion, premises and counterpremises (if present); then relate bolded statements to conclusion - Premise, Conclusion, Other? For / Against, Same Side, Fact Opinion
3) State goal - how should the two statements relate?
4) Eliminate - match answers; watch out for one word off or half right answers
Describe the Argument
1) Identify Question - often a person objecting or responding to another
2) Deconstruct: Find conclusion, premises
Evaluate how second person responds - is it a direct contradiction?, Question the conclusion itself, its relevancy or accuracy? Questions an assumption? Introduces new evidence?
3) Pause and State Goal - what was attacked, how was it attacked?
4) Wrong to Right - must match what second person did, must address RELEVANT part of argument;
Watch out for wrong - one word off, not relevant
