CPU Performance Flashcards
How does clock speed affect the performance of the CPU?
Increased amount of FDE cycles increased per second (cooling system may be necessary when users manually increasing clock speed to prevent overclocking).
How does cache size affect the performance of the CPU?
The larger the cache, the larger amount of instructions that can be held
How does the number of cores affect the performance of the CPU?
More cores means an increase in how many processes can be done at one time
What is the speed of a computer measured in?
GHz
Which memory is closest to the CPU?
Cache
What is a core?
. A basic computation unit of the CPU
. Can perform a single process at one time
Will increasing the processor speed make the computer warmer or cooler? Why?
. Warmer
. This is because it is performing more FDE cycles in a second than recommended based on the amount of cores it has
Are RAM and cache classed as secondary storage or main memory?
Main memory
Identify three CPU components that could be upgraded to improve its performance?
. Clock speed
. Cores
. Cache
