Contraindications of CPT

A

-Increased Inner Cranial Pressures
-Head injury
-Aged, confused or anxious patient who do not
-Acute Spinal Cord injury
-Unstable Neck Injury
-Uncontrolled Hypertension
-Hemodynamic Instability
-Pulmonary Edema and Associated CHF
-Active hemoptysis –Absolute
-Uncontrolled Airway at risk for aspiration
Recent meals
Tube feedings
-Large Pleural Effusion
-Empyema -Infected Pleural Space
-Rib fracture, flail chest
-Surgical wound/Burn on the chest wall
Distended Abdomen

Hazards/Complications of CPT

A
  • Hypoxemia
  • If diseased lung is placed in dependent position
  • Cardiac output lower/hypotension
  • Pain
  • Vomiting and Aspiration
  • Bronchospasm
  • Dysrhythmias

  • Skin abnormalities
  • burns, skin graft, flaps, wounds, open infections
  • Recent pacemaker insertions
  • Osteomyelitis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Coagulopathy – bleeding disorder

  • Recent Procedures in which raising head is contraindicated
  • Certain Intracranial Surgeries
  • Femoral Vascular Access
  • Heart Cath/Aortic balloon pump Min 20 degrees
  • Intra-aortic balloon pumping
